Religion and chips

Religion can be likened to a packet of chips. How?

They come in a wide variety of flavours
They are sold in very alluring packages, Shinny, bright and colourful.
They seem on the outside to be made from a natural ingredient. eg potatoes or corn
They all have ingredients, colours and preservatives we don’t fully understand
They all taste pretty good. Due to the not understood ingredients
They all if taken in excess or just over time cause ill health
They are difficult to stop eating due to hidden ingredients we don’t understand
They take away hunger but never satisfactorily

Dialogue with the Chip God

Follower: Oh chip god; why has thou made me large of stomach and ill of health
Chip god; follower you must not indulge in the goodness I provide. For I give life and take life away.
Chip god: Follower have I not feed you when you are hungry? Have I not given you strength when you were week?
Chip god: My followers must never study the true nature of my many flavours and preservatives for it will lead to sadness
Chip god: Trust in my goodness

Modern Neurosis

The apparent individual conflict of the patient is revealed as a universal conflict of his environment and epoch. Neurosis is nothing less than an individual attempt, however unsuccessful, to solve a universal problem.

C.G. Jung 1912

He wasn't the first to think/write this. Sadly though it has been awhile since someone has repeated it. The world is not removed from our thoughts.
